About the Winemaker:
Winemaker Scott Moeller was born in Santa Clara, California and moved to Issaquah, Washington during his elementary school years.
While attending the University of Washington Scott worked part time for Larry Springer at Kirkland’s fine wine shop The Grape Choice where he met winemakers who would greatly influence his life: Kay Simon and Clay Mackey, the owners/winemakers of Chinook and iconic winemaker Mike Januik. Conversations and tastings with the top winemakers in the state inspired a different career path. In 1998 Scott transferred to California State University Fresno and studied Enology.
Scott’s first job in wine production was working the 1998 and 1999 vintages at the winery at California State University Fresno. Scott’s first Columbia Valley vintages were 2000 and 2001 with Kay and Clay at Chinook in Prosser, Washington. In 2002 Mike Januik offered Scott the role of Cellarmaster when the Novelty Hill and Januik wineries opened in Woodinville, Washington. In 2006 Scott was promoted to Winemaker and now collaborates with Winemakers Mike and Andrew Januik to produce a wide range of award winning wines.
Scott lives in Kirkland, Washington with his wife Wendy and twin boys. He enjoys being a Dad, fishing, camping, and sports.
About the Wineries:
Acclaimed Washington State winemaker Mike Januik founded Januik Winery in 1999 drawing on Columbia Valley winemaking experience dating back to 1984. The winery is dedicated to crafting limited release wines by working on a small scale with fruit from the state’s best vineyards and concentrating on the details of winemaking, from fermentation through blending.
Novelty Hill is an award-winning winery crafting elegant, high quality wines through careful management of the winery’s estate vineyard, Stillwater Creek, to produce rich, balanced wines that capture the finest expression of this steep, south-facing site on the Royal Slope of the Frenchman Hills. The vineyard is best known for its unique selection of premium varietal clones.
